“…when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were scattered, like sheep having no shepherd” Matthew 9:36
This is one of the most touching text in Scriptures. It communicates clearly the compassion of Jesus toward mankind
“He saw the multitudes…”
Be it friend or foe, rich or poor, young or old, male or female, healthy or unhealthy, the Lord is aware of everyone. The psalmist declares: “His eyes observe the nations…” Psalm 66:7. His just observation is aware of right and wrong, but instead of looking at what we deserve He sees what we need and longs to be our Savior.
“He was moved with compassion for them…”
The time will come when God will judge the godly and ungodly but now He is concerned with saving us. As our Creator He has no pleasure in seeing us robbed of life. As our heavenly Father His love has motivated Him to send Jesus to save us from our sins, John 3:16.
“Because they were scattered…”
In life, direction and guidance are necessary, but often they are lacking or neglected and because of this we are like the blind leading the blind. This is a very dangerous way to live because it makes us easy prey for the devil who is out seeking who he may devour, 1 Peter 5:8.
“…like sheep having no shepherd”
It is this situation that moves Jesus. He cares for us too much to see us destroyed. He is the good shepherd and He longs to deliver us. Have you accepted His compassion? If so, let others know about it. If not, why not? He cares for you and He wants you saved, John 10:10-11.
