Like charcoal to hot embers and wood to fire, so is a contentious man to kindle strife.

(Proverbs 26:20-21)

The fire goes out when the wood is consumed. Likewise, contention ends when busybodies and gossips have no news to tell.

Contentious people always infect others. Contentious seniors have created contentious juniors waiting for the seniors to die so they can rise to prominence. Therefore, the contentiousness continues even after the first generation of contentious people dies.

(Proverbs 26:28).
